We're Glad you Asked...
Is it real oak?
Yes. It's real oak veneer on a stable core, so you get genuine oak grain and colour with far less timber. All our wood is FSC-certified.
Will oak change colour over time?
Oak warms slightly with light over the years, taking on a soft honey tone. It's sealed with a durable finish, so it stays easy to wipe clean.
Oak or walnut: which should I choose?
Oak is lighter and brighter, and suits pale, airy rooms. Walnut is darker and richer, and suits deeper colour schemes. Come and see both side by side in our Swiss Cottage and Chelsea showrooms.
Which oak ottoman bed has the most storage?
Max Wood: 35cm of storage as standard, or 40cm with Max+. Air Wood has 33cm and sits on slim legs.
Can I have an oak ottoman bed with a fabric headboard?
Yes. Any of our fabric headboards fits both Air Wood and Max Wood, and it's one of the most popular ways customers order.
What sizes do oak ottoman beds come in?
Single to emperor, including European sizes.
How much does an oak ottoman bed cost?
Air Wood in oak starts from £1,650 for a single, and Max Wood in oak from £1,750. Delivery and installation are included in the price (terms apply). Choose your size, headboard and options online to see the exact price.
Is oak cheaper than walnut?
Yes. Oak costs £200 less than walnut in every size. Everything else about the bed is the same.
How do I look after an oak ottoman bed?
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Wipe up spills with a damp cloth and dry straight away. Avoid harsh cleaners and silicone polishes, and keep the bed out of strong direct sunlight to slow its natural warming to honey tones.
How easy is it to lift the base?
Very easy. We match the gas struts to your mattress weight: 900N for around 30kg, 1,150N for around 50kg and 1,350N for 65kg and above. The base opens easily and closes gently.
Can I get an electric lift?
Yes, on both Air Wood and Max Wood. It opens the base at the touch of a button, and it's ideal for super king and emperor sizes or heavier mattresses.
Can the base open from the side?
Yes. Choose end or side opening when you order. Side opening is useful if the foot of the bed is close to a wall or other furniture.
How long does delivery take?
Each bed is made to order in Nottingham and delivered in 6 to 8 weeks. Express delivery from 4 weeks is also available.
Will it fit up my stairs?
Almost always. The bed arrives in sections and our own team assembles it in your bedroom, so narrow stairs and tight landings are rarely a problem.
Do you sell mattresses too?
Yes. You can add one of our mattresses when you choose your bed, or use your own. Any standard mattress fits.
Can I try it at home?
Yes. Every bed comes with a 60-day home trial, so you can live with it before you decide.
What our customers have to say
Why Choose an Oak Ottoman Bed
Oak is light, bright and calming, with a soft natural grain that brings warmth to a bedroom without weighing it down. It suits pale, airy rooms and sits well with almost any colour scheme. Lift the base and there's room for bedding, suitcases and everything else you'd rather not see, so the room stays calm and clear.

Real oak, responsibly made
Each bed is real oak veneer bonded to a stable core. You see and touch genuine oak grain, the panels stay flat and true through the seasons, and each bed uses a fraction of the timber a solid oak frame would. All our wood is FSC-certified, and Furl is a certified B Corp.
Because it's real wood, no two beds are identical. The grain, figure and colour vary from panel to panel, which is exactly what makes oak worth having.
Oak storage bed, ottoman bed or lift-up bed?
They're the same thing. Whether you call it an oak storage bed, an oak bed with storage or an oak ottoman bed, it's a bed whose base lifts up so the whole space underneath becomes storage. We call ours ottoman beds.
Storage you can actually use
We measure storage depth as usable space: from the floor of the base to the top of the slats. The whole area under the mattress opens in one go, with no drawers to pull out and no gap to leave around the bed. At 40cm, a cabin suitcase lies flat inside with room to spare. That makes an ottoman bed ideal for smaller bedrooms, where floor space matters more than anything.
An easy, gentle lift
The base lifts on gas struts matched to the weight of your mattress, so it opens easily and closes gently. Choose opening from the end or the side, depending on where the bed sits in the room. For larger sizes or heavier mattresses, an electric lift opens the base at the touch of a button.
Oak or fabric headboard
Match the frame with an oak headboard for a clean, Scandinavian look, or choose any of our fabric headboards. A fabric headboard on an oak base is one of the most popular ways customers order: soft upholstery against pale grain looks fresh and inviting, and it's comfortable to lean on when you're reading in bed. You can also leave the headboard off entirely and fix the bed against a panelled or painted wall.
Styling an oak bed
Oak works beautifully with soft whites, stone, sage green and pale blue. Pair it with white or oatmeal linen bedding, simple ceramic lamps and a natural jute or wool rug for a light, restful room. In a small bedroom, oak keeps everything feeling open and airy.
Built to be used every day
Every bed has a 2cm-thick frame, so it takes up barely more floor space than the mattress itself. Orthopaedic slats support the mattress properly, and any standard mattress fits. These are beds designed to be slept on and opened every day, for years.
Sizes and dimensions
Oak ottoman beds come in every size from single to emperor, including European sizes.
