Furl News · B Corp

We've become a certified B Corporation — an independent standard for businesses built to do more than make money.

There are certain moments in the life of a small business worth pausing over. This is one of them.

Furl is now a certified B Corporation — part of a global community of companies meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. For a small team making furniture by hand in Nottingham, it's a milestone we're quietly proud of.

What B Corp certification actually is

B Corp certification isn't a logo you can simply apply for and display. It's awarded by B Lab, an independent non-profit, after a rigorous assessment of how a business behaves across every part of its operation — how it treats its people, its suppliers and makers, its customers, its community and the environment.

The assessment is demanding by design. It looks past what a company says about itself and examines what it actually does: where materials come from, how workers are treated, how decisions are made, and whether the business is genuinely accountable for its impact. Certification has to be re-earned over time, not kept indefinitely. In short, it's a way of proving — to an independent standard — that a business is built to do more than make money.

Why it matters to us

For Furl, certification isn't a change of direction. It's a formal recognition of the way we've always tried to work. We make our sofa beds and storage beds by hand in Britain, using materials chosen to last — furniture designed to serve you for decades, not to be replaced in a few years. Because the most sustainable piece of furniture is the one you never need to buy again.

Becoming a B Corp holds us to those principles in a way that's measurable and independently checked. It's one thing to believe you're doing the right things. It's another to have them assessed, scored and verified by someone with no reason to flatter you.

Why it matters to you

If you own a piece of Furl furniture, or you're considering one, certification is a simple reassurance. It means the company behind your bed is held to a higher standard — one that considers the people who made it and the world it's made in, not only the sale itself.

A calm, considered home isn't only about what a room looks like. It's about knowing the things in it were made thoughtfully, by people who were treated fairly, in a way that respects the world they came from.

A beginning, not a finish line

We're allowing ourselves a small moment of pride today. But certification is a starting point, not an achievement to rest on. There is always more to do better — in how we source, how we make, and how we reduce our impact. B Corp gives us a framework to keep improving, and a standard to be measured against. We intend to use it.

Thank you to everyone who has chosen Furl, and who is part of this story.
